from NOK 235.00

Kii, Kirinyaga · Altitude: 1,600–1,800 m

Varietal: SL-28, SL-34, Ruiru 11, Batian
Process: Washed
Cupping notes: Deep, juicy and sweet with bright acidity
Flavour: Dried red fruit, raspberry, cane sugar

Description
This washed coffee is processed at the Kii Factory, one of three wet mills run by the Rung’eto Farmers’ Cooperative Society on the slopes of Mount Kenya in Kirinyaga. Nordic Approach has been buying from Rung’eto since 2016, and the cooperative’s chairman has put real work into quality: tiled washing channels and fermentation tanks, and water that is reused through the process.

Grown in rich volcanic soil between 1,600 and 1,800 meters above sea level, the coffee gets the intensity and depth that Mount Kenya is known for. The cherries are hand-sorted, pulped and graded by density, dry-fermented for 18 to 36 hours in shaded concrete tanks, then washed and dried on raised beds for 12 to 20 days. In the cup, it shows dried red fruit, raspberry and cane sugar, with an upfront fruitiness and a deep, sweet finish.

A quintessential Kirinyaga coffee: bright, juicy and full of character.
